I will leave this issu open since it sounds like there may be additional
possible work outstanding. However, it is fixed for me.

applicable Grub stanza."
Refind requires no configuration for kernels, and when presented on the menu, a
function key will bring up all older kernels found in the directory as an
option to boot. Saves a lot of time when testing something that requires kernel
changes.
