Thanks for reporting.

I think what you want is "kwikdisk" (included in "kdeutils3" package).
This applet tracks current mount status regularly (every 60 seconds by default)
and can unmount if needed.

But because this applet does not have an ability to acquire a privilege,
it must be started with "root". Otherwise, unmount will fail.

If you want to improve this app, please help us by sending a patch.
