I guess that answers my question!

I didn't know about the four packages. So this might be a problem with users
who build pidgin/finch by themselves (with ./configure et al) instead of using
your spec file, but I don't know where to check that.

Anyway we'll just apply the patch, should be included in the next release,
2.11, to be released soon���. Feel free to close this ticket. I was just hoping
those flags would be just a mistake, but yeah, clearly it's important
