How did you add the script. That something is in user path does not mean that kde will include the .bashrc of the user prior launching it. Had you added it with full path to the script? When I am trying it now in various locations it seems to work as designed if relative and path altered in bash.profile or absolute if outside path. Reopen if you are reproducing on Leap and can check the relative/absolute thing in your path to script.
