If you are going to use custom entries why do you need to use grub2 in > the first place? Because the system as upgraded is broken, and fails to boot. Adding the efibootmgr entries was one of the steps along the way to getting this system to boot at all ... the other being the startup.nsh. Obviously, as I'm able to boot, the workaround worked.
