Common repositories like the community repos for NVidia drivers, Packman for
multimedia codes etc. are just two or three clicks away.

Even if you have other repos that you use only rarely, you can simply add them
and then immediately disable them for later use. As long as you don't
explicitly install packages from them, the only effect is that some metadata
will be downloaded and cached.

If we provide that option, however, it is yet another decision the user has to
make, another checkbox we need to offer, and in the case of those community
repos another workflow step that almost nobody needs or wants. This just
increases the overall complexity of that procedure.

I don't see the benefit to outweigh this. Please elaborate.
