Machine MSI laptop running OpenSuSE 13.1 Bottle

Linux laptop 3.12.57-44-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Apr 6 09:18:15 UTC 2016
(9b4534f) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Sequence
0. take a Sandisk Extreme 500 USB(0781:5589) mass storage device
1. check it attempts (at least) to mount on a different machine (e.g. Windows).
yes.
2. check the laptop with 13.1 will automount MTP device (at least). yes.
3. insert USB Sandisk device into laptop
4. expected outcome: automount offered via KDE (as happened in 2015)
5. actual outcome, as below

# udevadm monitor
monitor will print the received events for:
UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing
KERNEL - the kernel uevent

KERNEL[332.591616] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb3/3-3 (usb)
KERNEL[332.591738] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb3/3-3/3-3:1.0
(usb)
UDEV [332.596933] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb3/3-3 (usb)
UDEV [332.598359] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb3/3-3/3-3:1.0
(usb)

(i.e. udev detects USB device but nothing more happens)

the device
