xdg-utils was updated in the past couple of days. xdg-open is now completely broken :( Instead of attemting to open a URL, it opens a file:, which I think is the current working directory. For example, when I open any URL in an email, it opens instead file:///home/dhoworth/Mail/queue/ Please update to a working version of the package, or fix the regression, or rollback the update.
