OK, then it's likely the wifi driver itself when it happens during installation image -- which doesn't contain hp_wmi, I guess. Did you already install the Leap or TW system on this machine (e.g. from a full DVD)? If yes, does the WiFi work at all? I suppose it's not. Once after you bring up the machine, we can start debugging. For example, try to install openSUSE 13.2 kernel on the Leap or TW. It should still work in most cases. Once after confirming 3.16.x working, we can narrow down the regression point. There are kernel packages available in OBS repos home:tiwai:kernel:3.17, home:tiwai:kernel:3.18, etc.
