Just FYI, the new kernel (4.14.2) allowed apparmor to be trained for a few dovecot files permissions, and apparmor is working again in enforce mode for all the dovecot files. (I had tried setting all dovecot files to complain to see if it helped the kernel crashes of 4.14.0 and 4.14.1).
