I extracted the possibly relevant parts on /var/log/zypp/histroy into
bugzilla_898913.txt (grep '2014-09' history > bugzilla_898913.txt) and grepped
here. 

I found an update of glibc on 2014-09-11, this might not have caused the
problems that appeared on 2014-09-29.

For lvm2, I had installs on 2014-09-12 (2.02.98-148.1 from systemsmanagement
repo) and 2014-09-29 (2.02.111-150.1 from systemsmanagement repo). So the
latter might be the cause of the problem.

It might be a good advice to go back to 2.02.98-0.28.18.1 from the Update repo
then, I guess. OK, I did it, and it brought device-mapper-1.02.78-0.14.1.2
right along. Unfortunately, mkinitrd hangs, so I can't test it right now.
