So I reproduced what reporter is saying here, but I will still set this to xorg-team, as removing "distro built" driver, and installing the exact same driver "the hard way" gave working gdm. Look at this snippet from xorg log when using distro driver: sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce GT 730 (GK208) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0) sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (--) NVIDIA(0): Memory: 2097152 kBytes sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 80.28.78.00.13 sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 8X sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA(0): Validated MetaModes: sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA(0): "NULL" sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 640 x 480 sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to get display device for DPI computation. sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (==) NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (75, 75); computed from built-in default sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) UnloadModule: "modesetting" sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) Unloading modesetting sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (--) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA: Using 12288.00 MB of virtual memory for indirect memory sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA: access. sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA(0): ACPI: failed to connect to the ACPI event daemon; the daemon sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA(0): may not be running or the "AcpidSocketPath" X sep. 12 14:22:25 haldis /usr/lib/gdm/gdm-x-session[1210]: (II) NVIDIA(0): configuration option may not be set correctly.
