This is an ugly problem which recently got addressed mainline.
Every pre-defined ACPI method gets checked whether the return type fits and
eventually it gets converted.
This won't get backported.
In fact this is a BIOS bug, but a very corner case (even depending on which
ACPI version is returned, even XP seem to behave differently than Vista and
7...).
Ok, this already is in latest Linus tree, I expect it's related to this
(drivers/acpi/acpica/nsrepair.c):
