openSUSE Tumbleweed version 20220706 Non-root users cannot start Firefox or virt-manager (other applications may also be affected) because the file permissions of /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/gschemas.compiled are 0600. Changing these permissions to 0644 solves the problem. This error has been occurring for a few weeks (sorry I can't be more specific). But the problem occurs again after running zypper up - not in every case, but occasionally. I could not yet find out which package upgrade causes the problem. Thanks DanielB.
