The protective mbr parted creates has inconsistent data. The CHS value for the partition start is 0/0/1 (pointing to the MBR itself) but should be 0/0/2 (pointing to the partition). The LBA starting value of 1 is correct, however. (CHS values are 1-based.) UEFI spec also explicitly mentions the correct value 0/0/2. gptfdisk works correctly, btw.
