As there was no successful ppc64le build since 2020-02-28, I also tried do get
the statistics of last successful build using "osc getbinaries". The memory
consumption was

  Kernel:HEAD             2763 MB
  Kernel:stable           2684 MB

which is a bit higher than with older versions of the toolchain:

  Kernel:openSUSE-15.1    2396 MB
  Kernel:openSUSE-15.2    2350 MB

but nowhere near four times higher.
