Still a problem as of today and it took me forever to understand why rxvt-unicode-256color would not use color with ls. Please update /etc/DIR_COLORS with more TERM entries, to add more terminals supporting color and especially 256 color, such as rxvt-unicode-256color A good starting point is the list defined at the end of this file: https://raw.github.com/trapd00r/LS_COLORS/master/LS_COLORS
