Looks like a nasty libxcb bug. I've compiled game version 0.9.6 from source and
it also freezes the display. It's running fine on Ubuntu 14.04.5 Trusty from:

Version: 0.9.6-1trusty
openSUSE Leap 42.1 is plain too unstable. Will upgrade to 42.2. So closing as
WONTFIX. Thanks!
