Thanks for the pointer to the repo mirror tool, I didn't know it existed. It's massive overkill, creating complete copies of the 22 repos configured here, some of which are used for only a few packages (various reasons). I want to share only those rpms on the LAN that are actually being used by one of the LAN hosts (e.g. family at home). Making /var/cache/zypp/packages/ a shared storage location for that would be just fine, sharing by any one of different local options. It would even work, if zypper wasn't so anti-social. The security implications are minimal as far as I can see, all packages are signed so the worst would be more ISP traffic or update errors. I'm not addressing an enterprise environment.
