Had a quick discussion.

"Save yourself and exit" is currently a single step, which can also cause the
power action to be cancelled. That's why it runs before the dbus call is made.
There is currently work going on to improve this situation in general by adding
a  feature (a new QCoreApplication attribute) to Qt.
