The requested fix has been released for Leap 42.1 and 13.2 meanwhile, therefore
I'm closing this.
kwin should correctly restart now if it crashes and not freeze the display.

Feel free to reopen or file a new bug report if you still experience crashes
and can provide a useful backtrace.
But as mentioned, reporting it upstream would probably be even better in that
case.
