Normally dragonplayer works with phonon-backend-gstreamer and phonon4qt5-backend-gstreamer by default. He also can work with phonon-backend-vlc and phonon4qt5-backend-vlc, but in the current installation dragonplayer fails with " ~/.dragonplayer> dragon PHONON-VLC [FATAL__] libVLC: could not initialize PHONON-VLC [FATAL__] Phonon::VLC::vlcInit: Failed to initialize VLC " If dragonplayer should work with phonon-backend-vlc there must be added a symbolic link during installation: /usr/lib64/vlc/plugins must be linked to /usr/local/lib64/vlc/plugins dragon is only searching in /usr/local/lib64/vlc/plugins, not in /usr/lib64/vlc/plugins and can not start the phonon-backend-vlc. If this link is added dragonplayer can work with phonon-backend-vlc and phonon4qt5-backend-vlc. If in systemsettings/multimedia/backend "Phonon VLC" is in the first row, dragonplayer will only work, if there is the mentioned link added.
