Wait... At the moment you ran "rcxdm start", did you already have the graphical interface, typically on VT7? And while you typed "rcxdm start" on VT3, you could use your keyboard? If both are yes, just go to VT7 (Alt+F7), and you should have the graphical interface, and test the keyboard there. Also, what desktop environment are you using? GNOME, KDE, XFCE or anything else?
