The kernel.org bug entry is specific to AMD chipset, so it's likely a different problem. Note that the problem in bko appears always, no matter which application is used. Does the playback via pulseaudio work as expected in general? You can try to play via paplay for a WAV file, for example. If the sound works in general, it's not about the sound backend, but rather the application problem.
