I cannot reproduce it anymore:

* openSUSE-13.2
  doesn't have traditional /sbin/init anymore,
  and systemd doesn't seem to have that problem.

* SLES-11.3
  still has traditional /sbin/init, so
  I guess this issue has been fixed (or wasn't present on [my] SLES-11.3).
