I noticed when "mlocate" was selected as one of the packages for first time install of openSUSE 13.1 the locate group was automatically created. However, with openSUSE 13.2 RC1 the locate group is no longer created. This is due to the fact that the locate group is no longer required. The locate group is not necessary with the recent mlocate package as mlocate is currently executed as nobody. The description tab in Yast Software Management shows: mlocate - An utility for finding files by name A new locate implementation. The m character stands for merging, because updatedb reuses the existing database to avoid re-reading most of the file system. User must be member of locate group in order to use this package. This description MUST be amended.
