If you provide us a foolproof and fast hook, i'd consider adding it.
I'd advise you to just use the HAL based mounting methods of the desktop
environments, which will properly unmount the device before suspend.
If you mounted it by hand, you are responsible to unmount it by hand, sorry
(you _are_ root, so you should know what you are doing).
It might be a kernel or util-linux bug that the machine still thinks that the
device is mounted.
