Please post the content of /var/log/boot.msg after the installation image has
booted.
Here's what's going on: On ich6, the controller doesn't change PCI DID
depending on controller mode (ahci or ata_piix). If the BIOS has configured
the ABAR, ahci will successfully attach; otherwise, ahci will fail during
controller initialization and ata_piix should be used, so the module selector
should default to ahci and then fall back to ata_piix if ahci fails to attach
to the controller. For some reason, this didn't work and, for yet another
unknown reason, b1 favored ata_piix over ahci while b2 the other way around.
ie. There's no driver level change regarding ICH6. This bug is about module
selection / fall back handling on detection failure.
