Tumbleweed is a rolling release and it is thus natural that all updates are usually coming from the main repositories. But there are always exceptions when stuff needs to reach users quicker than the formal staging/QA/prodbuild/fullQA cycle would take. For this reason there is the update channel. Removing it from a default install would mean to lose the ability git express sec fixes (or pushing fixes while larger issues in the regular prod channel are being worked out)
