output of journal when pop times out

I have an annoying and persistent problem while performing pop3 with akonadi
and kontact/kmail in Tumbleweed. The request times out. 

I suspect this to be a plasma or kde related problem (so either desktop or apps
involved). 

I join the output of 
journalctl | grep timeout to have some more info. 
There is no crash reporting or app hanging. Provider giving service via IMAP
are not touched. 
Settings are 995 ssl/tls. 

Impossibile effettuare il login sul server ���pop3.mailbox.org���.
pop3.mailbox.org: Operazione sul socket scaduta 

So operation timed out on socket is the typical error message in notifications.
