You're right, the timer was not enabled and manually starting it worked. I think my confusion came from the fact that the timer was not enabled but I was using a cron job before and that worked. I can understand the reasons for migrating, but unfortunately it silently broke renewal, which is unexpected for a stable release like Leap. For TW I am used to a little breakage now and then :-)
