Let me cancel this .... no longer issue.

As consequences of filing this bug report - I wanted to be double sure that
evolution works in Gnome - it did/does.

Starting evolution in Gnome somehow resolved the problem in KDE. So, it works
again.

Obviously this is not an update issue as I have originally suspected.
