I got openSUSE Leap 42.2 in QEMU, where suspend works (unlike VirtualBox) to reproduce this. So I installed it, fetched Xfce and light-locker (without any system updates): "xfce4-session-logout -s" did put the system in suspend, after resuming light-locker kicked in, everything's dandy. Then I installed Leap 42.2 updates, rebooted and tried again: same result. Everything works like expected. What could be happening for you is an X11 (or LightDM?) crash after the suspend. Does this sound plausable?
