Comment # 2 on bug 1021361 from Mark Scott

Hi

Tested as requested using the Nouveau driver however no change observed, black
box still present. 

All apps at 16.12, however 16.08 Ark also exhibited the same behaviour as I was
on 5.8.5 LTS and still and had 16.08 apps when I noticed this issue, upgraded
to 16.12 but still the same. I hadn't used Ark on 5.8.3 as this a new install
(using old home) and went for the 5.8.5 LTS repo after only 24 hours so I don't
know if this is present in 5.8.3. I don't fancy downgrading to 5.8.3 to test as
I fear something will break from past experience.

Any ideas of root causing this would be most welcome.

I have a spare AMD 7750 knocking around somewhere I could try but I'm not
confident the problem lies with Nvidia.
