Hi and thanks for your report.

There has been an update to the grub2 bootloader in the time frame you stated.
I believe it is due to the changes discussed in bug 1206333.

So as I see it this is an improved user experience, no worries should be there
regarding security.

I'm reassigning this to the grub2 maintainers to verify.
