openSUSE has provided the "pin" command to locate files within uninstalled packages for many years. pin relies on being able to access a file /etc/SuSE-release to figure out the installed version, and a file /var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz which on first use is copied from the installation media. ...there is no /etc/SuSE-release and there is no ARCHIVES.gz on installation medium or ftp. This majorly breaks all kind of administration routines.
