Hello David,
the only negative impact I can anticipate are users like me, using fetchmail
since decades without changing anything and then are stuck with a dysfunctional
option.

In contrast, the new feature has been rolled out on December 17th - so 4 days
ago. Who would since then rely on Auto configuration of mailservers being
dysfunctional? 

And what is beneficial from a non functional Auto configuration?
If someone can explain - feedback offline is very much appreciated. Need not
prolong this bug thread here.

Sorry, this significantly exceeds the capabilities of my imagination :-). But
take your time to decide ....
