So, as David has stated, issue can be reproduced on qemu only. I was also able to reproduce it with X11, but there it's sporadic. Some part which seems to work differently in X11 installation, if Russian language is selected in the combobox, user has to switch to it explicitly by pressing ctrl-shift, otherwise remains default (US). No hints found in the logs...
