On Leap 42.1 & SLES 12.x, there is no man page for shadow(5) [describing the format of the /etc/shadow file]. Previous releases (e.g. openSUSE 12.3, SLES 11) shipped it in the man-pages package: $ rpm -qf /usr/share/man/man5/shadow.5.gz man-pages-3.46-1.1.1.noarch but it is no more. I believe it was part of man-pages-addons.tar.bz2, which was removed in man-pages 3.66: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/233560 The shadow package, where it might be expected to be, is explicitly deleting it (among other things) during %install: https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/openSUSE:Factory/shadow/shadow.spec (line 174-75 as of this writing) Probably we should take the man page from the shadow package (and not delete it during build)? This may not be the only missing man page -- anything formerly in man-pages-addons or that's being deleted in shadow's %install should be double-checked -- but it's the only one I've personally noticed.
