Except that I am seeing "br0", but not "virbr0" in both that XML and in output
of commands such as "ip a".

I have the impression that "virbr0" would be there if I were using NAT.  So I
think there is some miscommunication going on, with you making wrong
assumptions about how things are setup here.

If I were to put "br0" in the firewall trusted zone, wouldn't that have the
same effect as disabling the firewall here?
