I have now dup'd two bugs to this one, and a third is closely related
(1019088).

reopening this, because the WONTFIX is intended for Python 3 (function is
deprecated now and will be dropped soon enough), but we might want to patch it
to work with os-release for Python 2.

Other than that, the recommended approach is to use python-distro (which we
don't package yet, hah)
