I'm wondering how you use libvdpau_nouveau at all on such an Optimus system
with Intel/nVidia combo?

I would try to live with VA-API Video acceleration for Intel. And use the
VDPAU->VA-API wrapper if needed for some software, which only supports VDPAU.
