Comment # 1 on bug 1232204 from Stefan Hundhammer
On my Leap 15.6, /etc/rc.d is a symlink to /etc/init.d:

[sh @ balrog] ~ % ls -ld /etc/rc.d
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 27. Jul 2021  /etc/rc.d -> init.d

[sh @ balrog] ~ % ls -ld /etc/init.d
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 4096 10. Okt 10:39 /etc/init.d

[sh @ balrog] ~ % tree /etc/init.d
/etc/init.d

Your messages sound like you really have a directory /etc/rc.d:

error: unpacking of archive failed on file /etc/rc.d: cpio:
  File from package already exists as a directory in system

Installation of insserv-compat-0.1-4.6.1.noarch failed:
Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed:
Command exited with status 1.

Please check.

I don't know when that migration from a real directory to a symlink happened;
it might have been long ago.
