In KDE, you are supposed to get update notifications by default in the bottom right corner. You can change how often there are checks for updates, default is daily, but I never got any notification until I launched Discover manually. Now, if Im not going into Discover manually, but when I just click on the little arrow and then system updates, I get the message "Network is disabled". I wondered why that is, since my network is in fact not disabled. I noticed, that my wifi only connects about 2 seconds after I login, and I suspect that the applet expects an already running connection when the UI loads - I think this is how it'd work if I had a wired connection. So IMO, there should be a failsafe built in: "If connection not active on login, try again 1 hour after", or something like this, otherwise I'll never be able to get notified about updates unless I manually trigger them. I think this is not how that piece of software is supposed to work, so it should be changed. To be sure, I checked this with an active LAN connection while forgetting my WIFI ones.
