OK, indeed using psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1 with the 4.14.15 kernel
produces the same problem:  Touchpad is dead after a resume.  

So it's not 4.15 specific other than that in this version the parameter seems
to default to 1, enforcing the (non-working) rmi driver.

I assume booting 4.15 with psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=0 should switch it to
using the old psmouse driver (not tested yet).

But it's obvious that this touchpad doesn't go well with rmi4/smbus...
