This is with the default Plasma (X11) session, right? If so, I don't think it can be caused by SDDM, because the monitor is actually turned off (no signal or DPMS) instead of showing a black screen, but the X11 display still works fine. It's possible that powerdevil (or kwin) in the plasma session use DPMS to turn it explicitly back on (?).
