The log fi8le is OK ... only the version of the dumped format

  3.14159265-2.6-1.40.17

does not fit the version of the binary its self

  3.14159265-2.6-1.40.18

... run as root

  fmtutil-sys --byfmt pdflatex

and recheck the version in the very first line of the log file
/var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex/pdflatex.log ...

Beside this the hyph-utf8 tree includes the UTF-8 hyphen pattern and UTF-8 is
nowadays the common standard.
