Ok, you are using Skylake and the the most striking was a Mesa update to
11.2.2-138.1.

The only patch on top of this was the fix for boo#980382. This should not cause
flickering.
The xf86-video-intel driver is no longer used with Skylake, however, this was
the case with 20160520 as well.

You could try and use the xf86-video-intel driver instead (edit
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf) and see if the problem goes away.

All in all it seems like Skylake is still a bit 'flaky', so I assume your
issues existed on 20160520 as well but you haven't noticed ...
