Please don't look at file sizes in procfs/sysfs/debugfs, all of these files are virtual and their contents are generated on the fly when you read them. If you're using GUI tools, I remember having problems back in KDE3 times: kedit would load the contents, but kwrite would not. So really, try to stick to cat on the command line.
