That ultimately would depends on what's needed by grub.cfg. The grub-install will populate the fonts and locale directories that will be used by grub.cfg generated by grub-mkconfig. If KIWI uses it's own script to set up the grub.cfg and other needed stuff in grub directory it may not require to do so ... @Marcus, It would be great if you could help to clarify how KIWI deal with fonts and locale (translation files) needed by grub.cfg. Thanks.
